Artificer Subclass: Sandman
This subclass is/was my submission for D&DShorts' Artificer subclass contest which I finally got around to properly formatting. My goal was to create a subclass which (hopefully) steer away from the very mechanical, steampunk-esque aesthetic the artificer is known for and takes it more into a mystical direction. The reason I chose sand as a theme for this subclass is because there’s obviously the connection to the sandman–the mythological figure that induces sleep–but also the Arabic myths and legends about grand mirages which oftentimes take place in deserts. Sand can obviously also be used to build with–who hasn’t built a sand castle on the beach before? Unfortunately, the artificer spell list is pretty limited in the way of illusion and enchantment spells, so I had to do some mechanical gymnastics to make sure the subclass could still enjoy some of those spells. This might give the subclass a bit of horizontal power creep, but I think that that sort of thing is more fun than, say, slapping an extra damage die onto a spell.
Sorcerer Subclasses: The Tome of Elemental Origins
It's been a hot minute, but I am back and would like to present to you: the Tome of Elemental Origins! A 'compendiumette' of three subclasses for the sorcerer themed around the elemental damage types in D&D 5th Edition. I hope you like them!
Warlock Subclass: Draconic Patron
This is my take on the tried and tested Dragon Patron subclass for the Warlock! I wanted to make a clear distinction between metallic and chromatic dragons, and I hope that shines through in the subclass. I really don't have much else to say, so I'll leave it at that!
Cleric Subclass: Vestige Domain
What better way to come back from the dead than with a subclass about worshipping dead gods? The irony there doesn't escape me, trust me. But! I had this one sitting on the bench for a long time now. I originally made this for a player in my campaign, but I figured it was too cool not to share. The theme for this subclass is vestiges, the name given to gods who are considered dead or no longer part of a world's pantheon. My intention was to create a 'mirror' subclass to the Celestial Warlock; a Cleric that feels more Warlock-y via use of rituals and curses.
Spell: Extend Reach
Whoa! Goose writing a spell for once? Indeed I am! Sometimes, you don't need extra damage, or a bonus to your attack rolls, you just need to be able to hit more stuff. And that's exactly what this spell lets you do!
Species: Wildhost
I love the concept of living, walking trees & plants, and just how much they can do to create a foreign, uneasy atmosphere- or a very warm, peaceful one- is utterly remarkable. You could have your party wander into a dense forest with gnarled, moss-overgrown trees, not knowing that half of those trees have eyes that watch the group’s every step, or you could have a scene where a treant seems to be talking to themselves, only for the party to find out there’s a family of songbirds living amidst their branches.
Class: The Falconer
At the time of posting this, it has been exactly 2 years since I posted my first homebrew on reddit. To celebrate, I figured: why not go back to the project that really kicked off this hobby for me, and give it a bit of love? So here you go, the Falconer class, updated to 5e 2024 mechanics & rules. I hope you enjoy!
Species: Variant Centaur
This is my take on a playable centaur. Centaurs are probably my favourite species to play as- they are fast, tall, and their unique anatomy introduces a lot of fun roleplay moments. They're also prominent in my own homebrew setting, hence the lore about them in this brew. I wanted to give centaurs a little bit more love than our friendly mages of the beach did by giving them lineages- after all, why stop at just horses for your lower half when there's a breadth of other hoofed animals that are at least equally as cool? I hope you enjoy my spin on the centaur!
Sorcerer Subclass: Blademarked
This is my gish sorcerer subclass. There are many like it, but this one’s mine. Last but definitely not least in this 3-part series of weapon-themed subclasses is my spin on a spellblade sorcerer! The introduction of Innate Sorcery in the 2024 sorcerer was too good not to make use of to introduce a bladesong-esque feature, so that’s exactly what I did. In terms of design, this subclass is a little less on the complicated side of things, but nevertheless I hope it sells the idea of a magic-martial-mix well!
Bard Subclass: Blade Conductor
Continuing the theme of “Floating swords are really cool”, here’s the Blade Conductor! I originally envisioned this to be a Sorcerer subclass but ended up being one of those rare cases where the design followed the title, rather than the other way around. I was inspired by Jhin and Xayah, characters from League of Legends, which I think shines through in the design. I was also happy to go a little overboard on the subclass’ complexity for once, so that you as the player can strategize with the tools the subclass gives you.
Monk Subclass: Way of the Dancing Blade
Fighter Subclass: Pit Fighter
Paladin Subclass: Oath of the Horseman
Fighter Subclass: Portal Knight
Bard Subclass: College of the Pied Piper
Species: Harpy
Bard Subclass: College of Cards
Artificer Subclass: Pilot
This is my take on the tried-and-tested mech suit/jaeger/titan/mecha artificer. Coming in at a whopping 7 pages this is quite the pill to swallow, but most of that 7 pages comes from its customizability, which means that you can really tailor your mech (or Strider, as I've taken to calling it) to your liking. Or, at least, I hope it does!
